JAA - Frequently Asked Questions

Return to FAQ

Can I make substitutions?
For the most part the answer is NO. Those plans were created to maximize the course selections you will have while enrolled in your community college. The plans were designed by carefully comparing the course catalogs from each institution. The plans have been approved by our faculty. Substitutions must go through the same process; and that is not an easy one.

If I am enrolled at more than one of the JAA schools, which Transfer Plan should I follow?
The suggestion would be to follow the one for institution from which the majority of your classes will be earned.

Must I take the course work outline on the Transfer Plans in any special order?
No, not really. It is advisable to work with an advisor at your JAA component school to design how your courses to maximize the time you spend enrolled.

What if there is no Transfer Plan for the major in which I am interested?
First check to make sure we offer that major. http://www.utsa.edu/Admissions/ADM_MSC_degree_programs.html If we offer the major but there is no Transfer Plan, there are probably not enough transferable courses offered at the community college to justify creating a transfer plan.

What is the importance of the transfer plan?
A Transfer Plan can be compared to a roadmap or computer-aided driving instructions. You can usually arrive at your point of destination without either, but you might make several wrong turns along the way. You might waste precious time, use extra gas, and ultimately spend more money. The same type of thing can happen by taking classes at a community college without a definite plan in mind.
