JAA - Frequently Asked Questions

Return to FAQ

Did you know that you do not need an appointment to visit UTSA?
Get your questions answered about UTSA. The New Student Admission Center is open Monday - Friday from 8 am - 5 pm. Walk-in visits are welcome during office hours, please call ahead.

Do I need to earn a certain amount of hours prior to applying to UTSA?
Yes and No. If you meet the admissions requirements to UTSA for our first-time freshmen (http://www.utsa.edu/Admissions/freshmen/ADM_REQ_Instate.html), you can apply as a Freshmen Transfer, which means that you have earned less than 30 college-level hours at the time of application.

Is there an application fee waiver?
For transfer students, no. Since you are entering into a JAA with UTSA, UTSA will probably be the only school to which you will apply. The application fee is a part in your investment into your future at UTSA.

What are the admission requirements for UTSA?
Transfer applicants with MORE than 30 college transferable credit hours from accredited colleges or universities must: have a 2.0 gpa in all college hours attempted and be eligible to return to all previous institutions. Check out our admissions web pages for more information: http://www.utsa.edu/Admissions/transfer/ADM_REQ_transfer.html

What if I am interested in majoring in a field for which UTSA does not have a major?
http://www.utsa.edu/Admissions/ADM_MSC/degree_programs.html There are various means of becoming professionally prepared. The best way to determine if UTSA is the best match for you is to schedule a time to visit the campus and talk with one of our admissions officer.

What is the Academic FreshStart Program?
Under Academic FreshStart, academic course credits or grades earned 10 years or more before the semester for which the student seeks enrollment are not considered for admission purposes. Students admitted under this will not receive credit for any of these courses. A form must be completed in person to request Academic FreshStart as part of the admission process. For additional information call the New Student Admission Center at (210) 458-4599.

When should I submit my application?
When you begin your final semester at the community college, initiate your admission application with UTSA.
